Hair removal is much more crucial for athletes that it is for us for various
reasons. And because there’s importance involved it is obvious that there’s
much more to being hairless other than the looks of it. Now, we are talking
about men and women both. The entire routine, exfoliating, using the best wax, before and after-wax products, etc. has to be
handled by the athletes of both the sexes and many of the sports.
Swimmers
Swimmers bear the minimum clothing when they are are performing which
automatically makes waxing an evident thing for them for two purposes- looks and
agility. Swimming involves scientific aspects such as pressure and force which
decides the speed of the athlete. Not waxing the entire body can affect all of
these factors and may not allow the swimmer to cut through the water as
efficiently as they intend to.
Cyclists and Runners
Nanoseconds count! Yes, you have to have an aerodynamic body to beat
those nanoseconds which are letting you down in performing. Although the hairs
may be tiny, they add weight to the body which obviously doesn’t effect on a bigger
scale but they DO affect. When speed is the ultimate necessity here, even a
tiny baggage can ruin the efforts. Moreover, cyclists and sprinters tend to get
bruises that need immediate attention and dressing which could become an issue
in presence of the body hair.
Wrestlers
If you have wrestled even once in for life, you know the price of not
removing the body hair. The little hand tricks can hurt your hair follicles in
all the pulling and snatching. Plus, hair provides better friction giving the opponent
a stronger hold than they might have on a hairless body. So, yes, it’s
definitely not about being beautiful but efficient.
But Why Waxing When We Can Shave, You
Ask?
Shaving is like pseudo hair removal! It removes the hair but just from
the epidermis layer of the skin. Failing to remove the hairs from their root
points to its quick return which will force you to invest more time into this
whole hair removal thing. You wouldn’t have the time for it, right?
And that’s why waxing! It will allow you to stay hairless for at least
3-4 weeks contributing to your practice sessions as well.
Which Wax Should You Use?
If you prefer salons then there’s no need to worry about the types of
wax as the estheticians might explain things in detail. However, assuming that
athletes might need to wax more often to be free from the tiny stubbles, I
would recommend you to use Starpil’s bluewax beads, a specially formulated hard wax for small hairs. It is also one
of the best at-home waxes women
prefer!
The best thing about hard waxes is that they are stripless. Yes, you
don’t need strips for the procedure. Although the rest remains the same, that
is, you will have to clean the skin with pre-waxing lotion, heat the wax, and
apply it. The only difference will be that instead of using a strip, you have
to let the wax be for a few seconds until it becomes hard and then pull off just
like we pull the strip.
If you don’t want to get into the mess of heating and applying, you have
one more option and that’s roll-on wax kits. These kits will have wax
applicators with refill cartridges and a heater. It’s perfect for men and women
who lack the liberty of time!
