When it comes to waxing, we usually talk about hard wax beans kit, soft wax, strips, etc. But anyone hardly
discusses the core types of waxing which every woman must be aware of if she
chooses hair removal wax over other
methods of removing body hair. Knowing about these waxes will assist you in
deciphering what’s best for you according to your interest.
So, what are the types of
natural waxes?
There are two types of natural waxes, sugar waxes, and resin waxes. The
difference between the both lies in its ingredients and the technique with
which they are made. Each is unique in its own way and display characteristics
aligning with their preparatory methods.
★ Sugar-Based Waxes
Sugar based waxes are the normal, simple
waxes which almost pro-wax women may have tried once. These waxes are made
using sugar, water, citric acid, and chamomile extract. The cooking of this wax
is what makes it what it is. Heat is involved not only in its making but also in
its application while using it. One of the great things about sugar-based waxes
is that they are washable, meaning, they can be cleaned off with the help of
water.
★ Resin-Based Waxes
If you know what resin is, you might not
need any introduction to this type of waxes. If not, let me tell you,
resin-based wax contains sticky extracts from tree sap or gum which is usually
known as resin. Apart from its key ingredient, resin, these waxes also contain
ingredients like vegetable oils, beeswax, etc. These waxes are also termed as
salon waxes as most salons prefer to use resin-based wax as they are more
efficient in removing coarse hair. The drawback of this wax is that it’s not
washable, i.e, you need oils to clean off the wax, water will not do the job.
What Do You Need To Know
About Both The Waxes?
Sugar-Based Waxes
● Simple, Gentle, Perfect For Beginners
The most benefiting thing about
sugar-waxes is that it is extremely gentle on skin because of its natural
ingredients. Sugar is one of the most commonly used ingredients and there’s
hardly anyone who is unaware of the effects of sugar on the body. Besides,
there’s no chance of picking up any allergies with the simple ingredients used
in making sugar-based waxes.
These waxes have an amazing execution on
the hairs of medium length. It can be used on arms, legs, body, face, etc,
practically any part of the body. Sugar wax is the best pick for beginners who
have never waxed before as it is much lighter than the other waxes.
● Preparatory Process For The Skin
As for the readiness of the skin is
concerned, sugar waxes work better on a clean and dry skin. Thus, it is advised
to wash the skin using soap and wipe off the water using a clean towel.
Presence of any creams, moisturizers, or even dirt would hamper the efficacy of
waxing either leaving small hairs on the skin or breakage of hairs instead of
removing them from the roots. There’s no need for pre-waxing solutions as sugar
waxes work the best on the naturally dry skin.
● Easy Application And Removal
Although sugar-based waxes are in a hard
liquid state, they acquire the consistency of the fluid wax after heating it.
Therefore, you will need a spatula for its application on the skin.
However, everything that you might need
for sugar waxing comes with the kit itself. Using the spatula, apply a thin
layer of wax in the direction of the hair growth. Take a wax strip, place it on
the applied area and remove the strip quickly in the opposite direction. Repeat
the process until all the hairs are removed. But make sure to maintain the
temperature which mustn’t be too hot or too cold for a thorough process.
Resin-Based Waxes
● Thorough, Effective, Long-Lasting
Resin-based waxes have resin, a naturally
sticky substance in its ingredients which solidifies on cooling. These waxes
are in different solid forms such as beads, tablets, or simply liquid-solid.
Its stickiness grabs the hair thoroughly
regardless of its size which is why women who prefer to get their hair waxed
rather more frequently prefers these waxes.
As sugar waxes are liquid based, its
gripping capacity is lower than that of resin waxes. This makes it difficult
for sugar waxes to work effectively on coarse hairs but resin waxes are
actually preferred to remove coarse hairs. In fact, this is its USP.
Also, because resin waxes have a firmer
grip, it removes the hairs with a greater force destroying the roots more
efficiently. Because of this, the regrowth of hair after resin waxing is much
slower and sparser.
● Preparatory Process For The Skin
As opposed to sugar waxes which are
washable, resin-based waxes are not soluble with water but with oils. So in the
entire process of application, there’s no role of water in resin waxing but the
use of pre and post-waxing solutions become mandatory when using resin-based
waxes.
You must clean off the skin using
pre-waxing solution so there’s no dirt or anything that might make waxing a
difficult process. Remember, you don’t need to wash off your skin with water
before or after waxing. Doing so might only complicate the waxing process. You
can use talcum powder if there’s extra moisture on the skin.
● Application And Removal
Because resin-based waxes are usually
solid and hard, it requires a special wax heater and more heat to get into an
applicable state. The consistency of the heated wax must be thin as thicker wax
tends to not come off easily with the strip.
The rest of the process remains the same
with just a minor difference, the force used to pull off the strip while using
this wax must be greater. The stickiness of resin doesn’t come off easily and
there’s a chance of peeling of the skin if not done right. This is precisely
why resin-based waxes must usually be used by the professionals.
Also, never miss on using the post-wax
solution to get rid of the residue from the skin!
